On the Internet, iClose-Up Server can support up to 60,000 simultaneous connections from iClose-Up Clients with full functionality. iClose-Up can support users sending and fetching files to the server machine as well as through the server machine's network with no extra setup. Remote control can be passed from user to user or can be 'dropped' then 'picked up' by any user. On the Internet, pcAnywhere only supports a single connection with normal functionality while all other connections are restricted to just viewing the first user. pcAnywhere also requires extra setup for this 'conferencing' feature to be supported. |
iClose-Up allows you to have up to 20,000 users uploading & downloading files simultaneously to your iClose-Up Server. |
iClose-Up Server can support up to 256 simultaneous connections from iClose-Up Clients. (Requires iClose-Up Server to run Windows NT/2000 Server) |

Time to open the Windows system folder in sorted order. The folder has 1,255 files. iClose-Up displays it in 6 seconds, but it takes pcAnywhere 61 seconds to display the same sorted folder. We also tested opening a folder with 670 files, iClose-Up opened the folder in sorted order in 3.29 seconds and pcAnywhere opened the folder in sorted order in 37.56 seconds. The computers used were 450 mhz, Pentium II's; running Windows 98; with a modem connection at 33.6. iClose-Up & pcAnywhere left in default configurations. |

Time to transfer the database in minutes and seconds. The file transferred was "Plspappc.ddf", its size is 49,361,231 bytes. This database map contains all the surveyed public land in the United States. It is available from the United States government at
"www.nationalatlas.gov/ |

Time to transfer large text file in minutes and seconds. The size is 5,710,518 bytes. The file is all Microsoft Knowledge Base articles on Microsoft Word 2000. It is available from Microsoft at "ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/misc |
The file used was "Word2000.txt". The file is all the Knowledge Base Articles about Microsoft Word 2000. The file was changed by search and replacing the date "2000" with "2001". The changed file was then transferred by modem into a folder that contained the old "Word2000" file. This file is available from Microsoft at "ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/misc |
pcAnywhere could not transfer the file. pcAnywhere was given over 100 hours and had still not transferred the file. iClose-Up transferred the file in 21 minutes, 32 seconds. The file is a university's student enrollment SQL database. The university backs up the database every four hours. This new backed up database (2,291,099,136 bytes) was transferred by modem into a folder that contained the old database (2,290,509,312 bytes). The computers used were 400 mhz, Pentium II's; running Windows 2000; with a modem connection at 33.6. iClose-Up's transfer option was set to "Optimize for a few changes" & pcAnywhere did not have a comparable option and therefore was left in a default configuration. |
Optionally users can connect to an iClose-Up Server computer and be limited to file transfers. They can be prohibited from seeing the Server's screen, and can be prohibited from gaining Remote Control. |
With iClose-Up if the company president is sitting and working at NT/2000 computer and an employee connects to that NT/2000 to do some file transfers, the employee is blocked from using the president's rights to access files and file servers on the company network. With pcAnywhere the employee who connected would have access to all the confidential data that the company president could access. |
With a Windows NT/2000 iClose-Up Server, each user that connects gets their own user rights (user space) for file transfer with full NT/2000 security. |
With iClose-Up if a temporary worker is sitting and working at an NT/2000 computer and the network administrator connects and logs into a fileserver on the network to transfer files, the temporary worker is blocked from using the network administrator's rights to access files from that server; by impersonating the network administrator. With pcAnywhere the temporary worker would have full access to all the confidential data that the network administrator could access. |

Connect to people on the Internet with fixed (static) IP addresses or call them and have them run a program like winipcfg to find out what their IP address is so you can enter it, to be able to connect to them. |
With iClose-Up you do not have to be a computer expert to connect to people on the Internet. You do not have to know anything about IP addresses or Ports. You just have to know the name of the person you want to connect to. (the name they call themselves in their iClose-Up program) |
With iClose-Up you do not have to call a person you want to connect to and have them run a program like winipcfg to find out what their IP address is so you can enter it to be able to connect to them. iClose-Up supports Internet connections to dynamic IP addresses. |
Connect to multiple people behind a Router without knowing their IP address or Port number. |
Step by step instructions on how to configure popular Routers for incoming iClose-Up connections. |
Connect to multiple people behind Internet Connection Sharing without knowing their IP address or Port number. |
Connect to multiple people behind a Proxy Server without knowing their IP address or Port number. |
Automatically configures multiple computers behind Proxy or Internet Connection Sharing servers. Does not replace Proxy software, it assists the Proxy software on incoming iClose-Up connections. |
iClose-Up Client automatically changes port number to match iClose-Up Server port number. |
iClose-Up keeps just enough data moving on your Internet connection to keep your ISP from disconnecting you. When you dial and connect to the Internet, your connection uses up some of your ISP's resources. ISP's try to limit this use of resources. Therefore when iClose-Up is connected to the Internet and is waiting for iClose-Up Clients to connect, if your ISP did not see this data moving he would try and disconnect you. |
When iClose-Up is connected to the Internet it can optionally always re-dial and reconnect to the Internet if the modem connection gets disconnected for any reason. |
Finds and transfers just the differences between source and destination files, only when file names are the same. |
Finds and transfers just the differences between source and destination files, even with the source name and destination name are different. |
You can adjust the resolution used for finding differences between files, which can speed transfers by up to 2000%. |
iClose-Up offers three different ways to transfer files. First, Copy and Paste using Microsoft Windows Explorer or use iClose-Up file transfer interface or use scripts to automate file transfers. |
Use 64 or 128 bit Microsoft Internet Explorer super secure encryption. |
While your first transfer is going, select files/folders to start other transfers. |
Every time you select files or folders to Send or Fetch that is called a Transfer. iClose-Up can queue up 1000 Transfer statements where each Transfer statement can contain hundreds of files to be sent or fetched. |
Creates a Mirror image of the folders specified. If a file or folder gets deleted on the source side, it is deleted on the destination side and put into the "iClose-Up Deleted Files Archive" folder with the time and date it was deleted. Then if someone at the office says they deleted a file or folder 6 months ago and they now desperately need it, you can find it instantly in the iClose-Up Deleted Files Archive folder. This option is a real necessity for offsite backups. |
iClose-Up tests connection speed, looks at the type of file and decides what type of compression and what type of transfer parameters should be selected. |
When you connect to the Internet by modem, if the connection gets dropped iClose-Up will reconnect. When you connect modem to modem, if the connection gets dropped iClose-Up will reconnect. |
Simultaneously use iClose-Up and pcAnywhere on one computer. On the internet you can do file transfers simultaneously, you can even do remote control simultaneously. |
With Remote Control the application (like Word) runs on the distant computer. Only screen images, your keystrokes and mouse movements are transferred across the Internet or Modem. |
With Remote Access the application (like Word) runs on your local computer. You can access (open) your files from the distant computer. The files you access (open) are transferred across the Internet or Modem. |
Have multiple people in a conference by Internet or Modem where everyone sees the same screen and control of the screen can be shared between the multiple conferences. |
While in a remote session you can optionally print at the Client side from an application running on the Server side. |
Either side Client or Server can bring up a chat window and both Client and Server can type messages back and forth. |
Scripts on the Internet allow automated connections to computers with dial-up Internet connections as well as constant (always on) Internet connections. Scripts allow file and folder transfers, synchronizations and backups to and from other computers with error recovery for things like dropped modem connections. |
Scripts on modem to modem connections allow automated connections to computers with dial-up Internet connections as well as constant (always on) Internet connections. Scripts allow file and folder transfers, synchronizations and backups to and from other computers with error recovery for things like dropped modem connections. |
Network Scripts can automate connections to non iClose-Up computers to transfers files, synchronize files or do backups. |
Local Scripts can automate the backing up of folders on your computer to mass storage devices on your computer like a CD or a Zip drive. |
Anyone can create Internet or Modem scripts using just their mouse with iClose-Up's Wizard. You can also use iClose-Up's Wizard to create Network scripts or local scripts to backup your files and folders on your computer to your computers CD or Zip drive. |
iClose-Up Editor Wizard lets you modify an iClose-Up script with just your mouse. Or optionally since iClose-Up scripts are just text files you can edit them with your own editor or word processor. |
Scripts can launch applications that can use the the files that the Script just transferred. For example iClose-Up could locally execute a batch file before or after a transfer. |
Use iClose-Up's Scheduler to schedule when an iClose-Up Script will run. iClose-Up's Scheduler lets you schedule events for a specific time and date or you can schedule events to happen on a recurring basis like week days or on a specific day of the week. |
Use iClose-Up's Scheduler to allow iClose-Up Clients to connect to you by Modem only at specific times. iClose-Up will turn on and off the modems ability to answer incoming calls. |
Use iClose-Up's Scheduler to schedule when to automatically dial the internet to allow iClose-Up Clients to connect over the Internet to you, only at specific times. |
If you have a Cable Modem, xDSL, T1 or ISDN Internet connection you can schedule when iClose-Up Clients can see & connect to you. |
Use iClose-Up's Scheduler to schedule when and for how long iClose-Up's Port is open for incoming connections. |
